Why Go Vegan?

Why choose a plant based diet for your health?

The first step towards a healthier lifestyle is to go plant based There are multiple studies that exist that prove that animal products contribute to chronic disease and multiple cancers.

Colon cancer is the number # 3 cause of death in men and the #2 cause of death in women in the United States. The consumption of red meat (especially processed meat) demonstrates a convincing association to colon cancer. 1

Dairy products also contain a high level of fat which contributes to heart disease. As cows only lactate when they are pregnant, there are hormones that are not meant for humans present in milk.

Animal products contain high levels of saturated fat and cholesterol which are both unhealthy and contribute to multiple chronic diseases as well as obesity.

Plant based diets are based on whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts and in some cases small amounts of oils. These foods are mostly low in fat or have some good fats in them such as avocados, nuts and olive oil, Vegetables and fruits have a high vitamin and mineral content as well as complex carbohydrate, fiber and proteins. Whole grains are high in complex carbohydrates and proteins. The complex carbs provide the body with energy and are not a bad thing as carbs have always gotten a bad rap!

There are also many vegan foods to substitute for  things that people might miss: burgers, cheeses, various ice creams from a variety of plant milks,  the list goes on and on. But like with any healthy diet,  you must eat healthy to stay healthy!   No one should ever feel like they are “missing out” because the world of vegan options is unlimited and getting larger every day!

Also, along with the right diet, adequate exercise, sleep and self-care is the recipe for optimal health.
